About our Community Norms

To create a culture of shared research within the Medicaid and CHIP Business Information Solution (MACBIS), we need to have some shared community norms. In general, the goal of these norms is to cultivate a sense of openness about research within MACBIS. The MACBIS HCD Unification (HCDU) team and the Research Repository Working Group, a small group of members from the CMCS HCD Community of Practice, created this first draft of those norms.

Between Researchers and Participants

Ask for Informed Consent

All data stored on Dovetail should be there only after participants have consented to have it recorded and shared. Make sure that you inform participants about how, when, and by whom their data will be used. Incorporating a standard informed consent process for all research is critical to making this happen.

Use this standard verbal consent template at the start of every research session.

You can also send them Informed Consent One-Pager in advance of the research session to avoids time constraints during the session.

Give Information About the Research Ahead of Time

Before folks participate in research, they should have enough background information about the research to decide if they want to participate.

One way to do this is by providing them with a Research Context One-Pager that shares the research purpose, goals, and anticipated deliverables.

This way participants are well-informed about their involvement in the research and its intended aims.
