Dovetail

Unfortunately, Dovetail has several accessibility shortcomings. They acknowledge some of these in their Accessibility Statement.

Alt Text

One of these issues is that you can’t add alt text or captions to images, so those images aren't accessible to screen reader software. Because of this, we recommend that you include any information displayed in images in the body text of your insights and stories.

Cognitive Accessibility

We’ve also heard from the community that Dovetail can pose challenges for cognitive accessibility. Certain inaccessible elements of its layout (including unaligned grids when looking at highlights) can be somewhat improved through manual adjustments (such as switching from grid to list view).

Tag Color Contrast

A tag board in Dovetail showing the six default tag colors that have low color contrast: magenta, cyan, light green, yellow, orange, and red. The Colour Contrast Analyser app is overtop of Dovetail showing that orange tag color with white text fails WCAG contrast requirements.

Avoid using these six default tag colors with low color contrast: magenta, cyan, light green, yellow, orange, and red.

Half of the default colors for tags in Dovetail don’t pass the WCAG AA minimum color contrast requirement. These include magenta, cyan, light green, yellow, orange, and red. Instead of using these default colors, we recommend setting custom colors and checking the color contrast with one of our recommended tools listed in Tips for Accessible Design

Send Feedback to Dovetail

If you want Dovetail to improve its accessibility, we recommend sending them feedback. You can contact them on their public feedback site or through their contact form.

Mural and FigJam

Mural has a help article that outlines its accessibility features. Some of these are Facilitator features, though, which require a Mural account (reminder: contractors can’t have CMS Mural accounts).
